The suspect threw a smoke bomb to distract the the rush hour crowd, police sources told NBC News.

A suspect, described as a Black man wearing a gas mask and an orange construction vest, fled the scene, authorities said

Eight of the injured were taken to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn, and all were in stable condition, spokeswoman Lacy Scarmana said Tuesday morning.

The attacker fled the scene, with witnesses quoted in US media describing a man wearing an orange construction vest and gas mask.

No motive for the attack has yet been given......

 A photo from the scene showed people tending to bloodied passengers lying on the floor station. Further details were not immediately available.

The police are seeking a man in a worker’s vest and gas mask.

"several undetonated devices" were also found, the FIre Department of New York said.
