Shelby started his racing career at Bob Bondurant Race School. He dropped out and decided to start a full-time racing career. In 2010 and 2011, his first appearances were in the Skip Barber competition.
Shelby made his professional debut driving an American automobile manufactured, Ford Mustang in 2011. He was fifth in the Skip Barber National Championship in 2011.
The next year Shelby moved to the United States F2000 National Championship with an auto racing team, Andretti Autosport.
He moved to the Pro Mazda Championship with Andretti Autosport in 2013, finishing third in points and winning at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park among six podium finishes in 16 races.
The next year, Shelby continued with Andretti in Mazda, but unfortunately, fell to fourth in points. He signed in the American developmental automobile series Indy Light for Andretti Autosport in 2015.
Shelby moved to Touring Car Racing in 2019 to participate in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. There he finished fourth in a Honda Civic.
